How to Normalize Loudness for YouTube & Podcasts in Premiere Pro (The Quick Way)

If you’re exporting videos for YouTube, Spotify, or any podcast platform, getting your audio loudness normalized is crucial.

Why? Because inconsistent volume levels too loud, too quiet, or peaking audio can instantly turn off viewers or listeners. Fortunately, Premiere Pro has a built-in tool that makes it incredibly simple to normalize your loudness during export.

In this ultra-quick tutorial, Max shows you how to do it right.

Why Loudness Normalization Matters

Before we jump in, here’s what normalization solves:

  • Keeps your volume from peaking or distorting

  • Ensures your content stays within broadcast-safe levels

  • Makes your audio consistent across platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts

  • Prevents annoying volume spikes between clips or episodes

If your volume bar is always maxed out or your viewers are constantly adjusting their volume, this is the fix.

Step 1: Open Your Export Settings

Once you’re ready to export your video:

  1. Click File → Export → Media

  2. In the export window, scroll down to the Effects tab

  3. Expand the Loudness Normalization dropdown

Step 2: Set Your Loudness Standard

Under Loudness Standard, choose:

  • ITU BS.1770-3 (or similar industry standard)

Then input these settings:

  • Target Loudness: -14 LUFS

  • Tolerance: ±0

  • True Peak Limit: -1 dBTP

These numbers align with recommended levels for YouTube, Spotify, and most online platforms. They ensure your content isn’t too loud, while still sounding full and balanced.

Step 3: Export and Done

Once you’ve dialed in those values, just hit “Export”. Premiere will automatically adjust the output gain to hit the desired loudness, no extra audio mixing required.
