How to Add a Vignette in Premiere Pro (Beginner Guide)

Want to give your footage a more cinematic or stylized look? Adding a vignette is one of the simplest ways to draw attention to the center of the frame. Whether you're going for a moody effect or a snowy glow, Premiere Pro makes this easy with a built-in vignette control.

This guide walks beginners through how to apply and customize vignette effects using the Lumetri Color panel.

Step 1: Open the Lumetri Color Panel

To get started:

  • Go to Window > Lumetri Color

  • This opens the color grading panel where all visual tweaks are made

  • Make sure your clip is selected in the timeline before making changes

Step 2: Find the Vignette Section

Inside the Lumetri Color panel:

  • Scroll down to the Vignette section

  • Click to expand the controls

This panel allows you to control the strength, midpoint, roundness, and feathering of the vignette effect.

Step 3: Apply a Basic Vignette

To create a classic dark vignette:

  • Use the Amount slider and drag it to the left

  • The more you slide it, the darker the edges become

  • You’ll instantly see the dark fade around the corners of your frame

This effect helps center attention and adds mood to your shot.

Step 4: Create a White or "Snowy" Vignette

For a brighter or more wintery look:

  • Drag the Amount slider to the right instead

  • This will create a white vignette, giving your footage a glow or snowy halo effect

This can be useful for dream sequences, holiday themes, or light stylization.

That’s It

Adding a vignette in Premiere Pro takes seconds and makes a big visual difference. It's a great tool for beginner editors looking to enhance their footage with simple effects that carry weight.
